Ecosystem Connections

 

Sometimes it can be hard to see how all the members of an ecosystem affect each other. The scientists in "Tying the Knot" had to figure out how fishermen could continue to harvest mid-Atlantic horseshoe crabs without impacting migratory red knots, birds that travel nearly the length of the globe on their migratory routes! Then become the travel agent for the red knots on their migration by researching potential stop-over points for the birds.
