Dr. Gary Green
My favorite science experience was visiting the Particle Accelerator at CERN (The European Organization for Nuclear Research) on the French-Swiss border. During the trip, I got into an elevator and dropped 100 feet below the surface of the ground. When we got out of the elevator, I saw a magnet the size of a house and a 27-kilometer looped tunnel. The scientists operating the accelerator fired protons and electrons inside the looped tunnel. The scientists at CERN study nature’s building blocks; they explore what everything is made of. It was pretty cool to see it in action.
